Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria

You may be approached about the pilot PARTUM trial if you are 18 or older and have risk factors for blood clots. These risk factors include:

One of:

  • An inherited blood disorder such as heterozygous (1 gene copy) factor V Leiden, heterozygous (1 gene copy) prothrombin gene variant, protein C deficiency (low protein C levels) or protein S deficiency (low protein S levels)
  • On bedrest for a week or more at any time during your pregnancy

Two or more risk factors:

  • Elevated BMI before pregnancy that is greater or equal to 30 kg/m2
  • Smoking before pregnancy
  • History of a superficial vein thrombosis (blood clot in the superficial veins)
  • You develop pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure and protein in your urine)
  • Had an unplanned cesarean section in this pregnancy
  • Had a small for gestational age infant in this pregnancy
  • Postpartum hemorrhage
  • Postpartum infection
  • Your current pregnancy ends in a pregnancy loss (>20 weeks gestation)

You are not eligible to participate in this trial if your doctor recommends that you take injectable blood thinners or aspirin at home, or it is not safe for you to take aspirin. For more details, talk to your health care provider.
