You may be approached about the PARTUM trial if you are 18 or older and have risk factors for blood clots. These risk factors include:
One (or more) of:
- An inherited thrombophilia (genetic blood clotting condition) such as heterozygous (1 gene copy) factor V Leiden, heterozygous (1 gene copy) prothrombin gene variant, protein C deficiency (low protein C levels) or protein S deficiency (low protein S levels)
- On bedrest (immobilization) for a week or more at any time during your pregnancy
AND/OR
Two (or more) risk factors:
- Elevated BMI before pregnancy that is greater or equal to 30 kg/m2
- Smoking shortly before or during pregnancy
- History of a superficial vein thrombosis (blood clot in the superficial veins)
- You develop preeclampsia (high blood pressure and protein in your urine)
- Had an unplanned cesarean section in this pregnancy
- Had a small for gestational age infant in this pregnancy
- Postpartum hemorrhage
- Postpartum infection
- Your current pregnancy ends in a pregnancy loss (>20 weeks gestation)
You are not eligible to participate if your doctor recommends that you only receive aspirin or LMWH injections because of your medical history. You are not eligible to participate if you have a medical reason not to take aspirin or LMWH injections or have an allergy to one of the medications.
